Sheriff Clayton Riley asked for a pair of boots for Christmas, not a mail order bride! Unfortunately for Clayton, his brother and mother figured a bride would look better on him than a new pair of boots! After all, he'd been sulking around long enough after the death of his wife, and his family decided it was time to take matters into their own hands and see to it Clayton had a very merry Christmas!
Summer James was young, she was beautiful and, an impoverished orphan. Who would want such a woman? Obviously no one. For here she was, eighteen and now of age to set out on her own. But New Orleans was full of men with evil intent for one such as herself, and she saw no other choice but to take the only offer for survival she could find and become a mail order bride. What she didn't count on was becoming Sheriff Clayton Riley's Christmas present!

The Christmas MailOrder Bride Holiday Mail Order Brides Book 1 edition by Kit Morgan Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Is she anemic? What's with all the fainting? And the crying? And the inability to walk more than a month after a foot wound which broke no bones? She's a ninny and he might as well be a pedophile - all he wants is little and helpless and docile, big tearful eyes and eternal gratefulness for the rescue, with occasional flashes of defiance. He even cuts her meat for her! And she's pleased! The second book is an improvement, and the, um, heroine from the first is mercifully less dramatic and helpless, although STILL limping!
I would recommend this delightful clean read to anybody, teens and up because it doesn't have any foul language or any kind of explicit sex that would need an age rating, no need to worry who picks up your e-readers and see this little Christmas Gem. It is the second book in the Holiday Mail Order Series, but have no fear in getting and reading this one because it is a complete standalone HEA story on its own weight. Our heroine Summer, an orphan finds out she must leave the orphanage directly on her 18th birthday, is given the seemingly chance of her life, to be a mail order bride to a sheriff of all people, in Nowhere out west, will she get there safe and be safe there, but most importantly, will he want Summer after he sees her, she worries. Now, the stage is coming into Nowhere with Summer in it and Sheriff Clayton's just being informed of that, and who summer is and what she has traveled all the way out west to Nowhere, with the expectation to do, by his brother Spencer and he is many things. Shocked, angered and just flabbergasted to name a few which leads to a minor messed up event between Sheriff Clayton and Summer before they even get formally introduced, this leads to each of them going through their own inner demons of whether to carry on with the wedding or not, then let's not leave out ex girlfriends, and outlaws, maybe Summer's past a little! Finally, everything gets settled by Christmas in Nowhere! Great little sticking stuffer, Kit Morgan, has here for you, or for an ADVENT CALENDAR, One of the 12 days of Christmas things! This is a great little read while STANDING IN LINE, waiting to check out in those extra long Holiday Lines, WAITING FOR YOUR PACKAGE TO BE WRAPPED, at the speciality wrap botique, and for just anything else. I like to read while I am cooking especially baking if it's for 30 minutes or more! Just a bit of Holiday Cheer that you can wrap yourself up with waiting on that Christmas countdown, to go by.
The Christmas Mail-Order Bride (Holiday Mail-Order Brides #1)
By Kit Morgan
3/5 stars
Summer is a young orphan, who upon her 18th birthday will be too old to live in the orphanage anymore. She doesn’t mind working, but jobs & a place to live aren’t easy to find. Then, there are some nefarious men who kidnap and enslave young women who are then forced to work in brothels for the rest of their lives. Without any family or financial resources, Summer’s best bet is to become a mail-order bride.
Sherriff Clayton had no idea that his mother and brother conspired to get him a mail-order bride, until the day she shows up on the stagecoach. Since the death of his first wife, he’s not been interested in courting, especially none of the women from his town. He’s not too happy that he has a bride, but decides to get to know her and honor the agreement. The longer that he spends with her, the more that he feels for her and truly wants her to be his wife.
Summer has some hang-ups about rejection in her life. She was rejected by potential adoptive parents, other adults who came to the orphanage to look for a child and this happened too many times. So she doesn’t feel as if she’ll ever be accepted, is afraid of being rejected & sent back and doesn’t feel worthy since she remained an orphan.
The book was just too short for me to feel as though she was able to get over her feelings of rejection after almost the entire book was about that. I was also annoyed with Summer’s constant inner monologue of almost self-loathing and not communicating with Clayton.
I gave this a five because it truly is an enjoyable holiday read. Though the book does make you aware of what young women in orphanages coming of age sadly, had to face in those days and shines a light on the real dangers that awaited them. It in no way takes away from the enjoyment of this humorous, delightfully romantic romp!
This was a really delightful read. From Claytons shock at finding out his brother ( he didn't know it was really his mother behind it)had ordered him a mail order bride for Christmas; Claytons first sight of his unwanted bride and her beauty which awed him to the point that he forgot he was holding his gun, dropped it and shoots her in the foot, it just keeps on rolling from there. It was a good clean, funny romance but at the same time got across the point of how little confidence you have spending your life in an orphanage never knowing what t it is to be loved or wanted by anyone. While the overall story was so enjoyable and fun to read, Kit Morgan managed to get the underlying feelings of this orphan across, intertwined with suspense, humor and a little bit of danger that all leads up to a happy, love filled Christmas wedding, though even that wasn't quite as expected. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good clean romance and keep their spirits high for the holidays. Truly enjoyable!
I am glad that I didn't let the negative review keep me from reading this book. I love mail order bride stories and this one was nice and clean and I couldn't put it down. I laughed and I cried and I will read it again.
